Halloween

HALLOWEEN

Every October, the house gets a complete makeover to transform into a house of horror? Okay, so it's not like 'Fright Nights', but it is my happy oasis and my obsession as most people describe it. I've always been a freak for Halloween. From dressing up and trick or treating as a young child, to parties and taking a whole month to decorate my house as an adult. Each year, I pick a theme and design the house around that theme. Fake walls, cemeteries, vampires, zombies, you name it, I love it and would like to own it all.

This year, the house is transformed into my personal homage to 'True Blood'. Calling the house 'The Howling Fang Pub" complete with menu and designer drink list. (AB+ sells at a premium per ounce). A cute notation at the bottom of the menu to mark all the 'blood' was graciously donated. Having a sick and twisted sense of humor is a definite plus for this holiday.

Of course, my Halloween isn't complete without baking. My recipes for 'Frankenbars', 'Black Widow cookies', Were claws are crowd please'rs but usually it's my cakes that speak spooky. Last year was a cemetery complete with 'Carrie' hand gummy prop. This year, something a little simpler. A tombstone that lists names from True Blood.

Fun and creepiness aside, Halloween is also a high holiday for me. In the Pagan world, Samhain is similar to New Year's. We spend the 30th speaking to our ancestors, connecting with the spirit world and thanking them for everything they have put before us. We atone for our shortcomings (mine is gonna take days and days), bless our homes and families and start a new year fresh and clean.

Moon phases impact spells and magic just as they can impact daily life. Each phase of the moon can aid in the success of any ritual or incantation. Be conscious of when you are performing certain spells to get the optimum from them by using the moon phase in your favor.

Full moons tend to bring out the oddities in humanity as well as in the animal kingdom. Conversing with the spirit world is clearer on a full or new moon.

No two moon phases are the same so bear that in mind. Every month can bring new voices, visions and emotions via the phase of the moon.

Not every hero wears a cape and tights. Remember the heroes that live in and around your community. Fire Fighters, Police, EMT's, Nurses, Doctors, Teachers and don't forget to acknowledge Volunteers. Volunteers are the backbone to any hero's success.

Become a Volunteer and be a hero to someone!

**of course Soldiers are their own brand of heroes** SO HUG A VET and THANK A SOLDIER!!

The Special One..excerpt from 'Inside the Dragon's Heart'

THE SPECIAL ONE

Through the vastness of time
The heart seeks redemption
Broken and alone
Twisted and tormented by fate

No words to be spoken
No actions can be taken
Self-preservation by erecting walls
Closed off to all who would tread close

The days run into one another
The nights endless in their passage
Staring at an empty space across the bed
Once filled by a spark of love

Brutally stripped from your grasp
No amount of tears can cure
In silence always wondering why
Screaming out in agony inside the dreams

Gone from sight but not from mind
Only a marker to prove their existence
Flowers wither and constantly replaced
The void is irreparable

Life continues on
Memories urge the feet forward
Reminders of what had been
Take place of what should have come

A sullen anniversary
A visit to a somber place
Oh hallowed ground you stare into the heavens
Questioning how you deserved such anguish

Looking off in the distance
Searching for better days ahead
Survival is the priority
Carrying on beginning a new

Glimmer of a smile
Reflected from the sun’s warmth shining down
As if they guard your path
Allowing you the moments of contentment

Knowledge of a future reunion
Where your heart will finally be at peace
Gone by hardly forgotten
Life forever enriched by the special one

DAYS OF OLD...excerpt from 'Inside the Dragon's Heart'

Days of Old

Secrets lie within their walls
Voices echo in the silence of night
What was once historic is now myth
Close the eyes to see the dancing images
Fires burning with ancient songs
Cloaks shelter the faces
Whispers of incantations fly into the sparks
Fate decides the path of enlightenment
Generations learn their trade one step at a time
Condemned for their abilities
Protecting themselves from persecution by hiding
Yet still holding their beliefs to heart
Centuries pass memories fade
Curiosities bring back an ancient religion
Customs passed on from mother to daughter
Always remembering those who came first
The days of old light the future

A SIMPLE GOODBYE..excerpt from 'Inside the Dragon's Heart'

A Simple Goodbye

In the stillness of night

Tears flow like a tidal wave
From memories of a life gone by

Glancing over a marble stone
Reading the words over and over
Staring down at the wilted flowers

A simple goodbye not enough
Writhing hands and shaking flesh
Wishing fate had not wielded its hand

A portion of life ceases
Acceptance of past events and the road ahead
Not an ending but a new beginning
A transformation into a new entity
Angel eyes gazing down from above

Pain eases to a remindful hurt
Days slip into weeks into years
Marking anniversaries with tears and flowers
Passing on to next generations
A history of a life taken too quickly

A simple goodbye was not enough
Gone but never forgotten
Always in the heart forever in the soul
Missing you today tomorrow and forever

PAGAN HOLIDAYS

Pagan holidays follow the calendar quite similar to Judeo Christian Calendar of holidays. Yule = Christmas, Ostara = Easter, as well as Pagan holidays that have been 'adopted' by society. Samhain = Halloween, Beltane (Beltaine) = May Day.

DAILY TIP

Chronic illness means that sometimes even the easiest of tasks can be impossible to try or finish. Washing your hair can be like scaling the side of Mt Everest. Tying your shoes as difficult as trying to cap a volcano.

Smiling through the pain, you know you do it too.
