Hunger Games Movie Review

RIDGE MEADOWS DISH

HUNGER GAMES
Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci, Alexander Ludwig, Lenny Kravitz and Donald Sutherland

Panem, a Totalitarian society who stave off chaos and fighting by holding annual 'Hunger Games'. Each year, a male and female are chosen as 'Tributes' from each of the twelve districts. The games are the survival of the fittest in every regard.

The Games are televised for all the citizens to watch and 'keep in line'.  This year's games sees a volunteer from district 12. Katniss Everdeen(played by Jennifer Lawrence), is a bow yielding survivalist. She is strong, motivated and determined to win the game.

Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta Mellark, the male selected from district 12. Ratings and sponsors jump to support the 'young loves' Katniss and Peeta. Sponsors can keep you alive with their gifts.

Cato (played by Vancouver's own Alexander Ludwig), another player who is relentless in his pursuit of Katniss.  He is fierce, primal and displays no regard for life.

The movie had a stark resemblance to Stephen King's thriller 'The Running Man'. (The 1987 movie version starred Richard Dawson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jesse Ventura).

Limited action scenes make this a long movie to sit through. The hype certainly did not live up to the real thing for me. I was grossly disappointed and left wanting to return to Barsoom to watch John Carter once more.

RAVENBRAN RATING  1.5 out of 5 claws
